Therapeutic riding is the dynamic collaboration of horse, rider, instructor and volunteers with the goal of improving each individuals personal, emotional, and physical capabilities, and thus, enhancing their quality of life.
Who may participate in TR?
Therapeutic riding is utilized to assist children and adults with various disabilities, including Autism, Developmental Delays, Sensory Integrative Dysfunction, Cerebral Palsy, Brain Injury, Cerebral Vascular Accident (stroke), Attention Deficit Disorders, Learning or Language Disorders, Muscular Dystrophy, Multiple Sclerosis, Dementia, Alzhemier's Disease, Spina Bifida, PTSD, and other Emotional Disturbances, as well as Visual and Hearing Impairments.
What are benefits of TR?
While the beneficial empowerment of the unconditional acceptance, independent achievements, and lasting confidence fostered by the therapeutic interaction with a horse is immeasurable, traditional benefits of therapeutic riding include improvement of the riders' strength, posture, balance, coordination, flexibility, motor skills, functional communication, and emotional bonding while learning safe and effective riding skills through individualized equine assisted activities.
What is unique about the therapeutic horseback riding program at Unmistaken Stars Farm (USF)?
Unmistaken Stars Farm Sanctuary offers year-round therapeutic riding within a supportive, safe, and nurturing environment in which riders may achieve independence and build self-esteem under the guidance of fully qualified PATH International Certified Instructors. In addition to the expertise that the Iadonisi family brings to the TR program at USF, their compassion and personal experience stemming from immersion in the equine assisted therapeutic field over twenty years ago following the severe brain injury of a family member (one of your instructors!) whose unforeseen recovery was facilitated by physical therapy on horseback has inspired the Iadonisi family to share their trusted equine partners to create a program that honors and celebrates the powerful healing facilitated by the extraordinary human animal bond.
